Very friendly and great service as well by
Judy from Richmond, Virginia, USA Sailing date: Jun 2007The cruise director was absolutely delightful. My husband and I both really enjoyed his sense of humor. The crew was great and very friendly. The entertainment was great as well. The comedy and juggling was great. The food was excellent, although we did not have the correct dinner seating time that was originally requested. We were able to change this on the second day of the cruise. Because of this error, we did not have a very nice table, and we missed most of the entertainment in the dining room. I was mainly disappointed because it was my husband's first cruise and had so much enjoyed this on my previous cruises. However, the service in the dining room was excellent. We had an excellent cabin steward as well. We think he should get a special recommendation for his outstanding service. We also believe the gratuities should be left up to us as how they are disbursed. Not to slight the bartenders, because they did give us very good service, but we thought the gratuity to be a little on the high side. It seems as though the cabin stewards work extremely hard, and maybe the tips should be spread around a little more evenly. As busy as they were, they were still extremely friendly when asked to do something extra. We were very impressed by this. My husband and I did have a wonderful time. My experience on Carnival Cruise Lines was much better than the last time I traveled with them. Dining/Food
Stateroom QualityThe cabin was very nice, it was the first cruise I have taken where we had a problem with the noise coming from the cabin next door. They were up at all hours, the phone was ringing constantly, and we had a hard time sleeping numerous nights. It made things a little difficult, especially the last night of the cruise when we had to get up early. Other than that everything was wonderful.

Bridgetown, BarbadosBarbados is one of my favorite islands for shoppping.
In order to get some excercise, we walked into the city. Some of the scenery was beautiful. We really enjoyed shopping in Barbados. This is definitely one of my favorite islands to shop on.
Don't Miss: Columbian Emeralds and shopping. DominicaIt was still a nice day.
The shopping was not as nice in this area, except for the jewelry shops.
Don't Miss: Columbian Emeralds is the jewelry shop I believe we visited. Castries, St. LuciaUnfortunatly it was a rainy day when we visited this island.
Even though it rained a good part of the day, we still visited the island. Luckily, we did not have a shore excursion planned. We did however shop and still enjoyed the day.
Don't Miss: Columbian Emeralds. Charlotte Amalie, St. ThomasOur first experience para-sailing was very enjoyable.
The group that took us out was great. We enjoyed it immensely. They were very friendly, informative and we believe made our experience better because of their great attitude.
Don't Miss: Definitely do miss para-sailing if you have not done it, or if you enjoy it. They were a great group. 31 out of 35 people found this review helpful.

  Will not return. by
Mike from Southington, CT Sailing date: Aug 2007The dining time really ruined our trip. When we were not accomodated we had to rush to get to dinner or we were not able to go. The clientel on this ship was not what we were expecting. People were rude, pushed through food lines, etc. The food lines for the buffet averaged 30 minutes which we felt was rediculous. Dining/Food

A good taste of the Caribbean. by
A Traveler from Woodside, New York Sailing date: Jul 2007Pros: You can always eat. A nice collection of stops in the Caribbean. The floating hotel makes it nice to venture out and nice to come back and look forward to new destination. Dining/Food

Bridgetown, BarbadosMalibu beach-the rum and the location.
Maliibu Beach is very nice. It has a more commercial feel to it though. It was only place where I felt I overpaid for my taxi tour.
Don't Miss: The beach. DominicaPleasant Domin-EEK-a.
Dominica is called "Nature Island" and it's easy to see why. Although it is a poor country it did not reek of poverty and people in the marketplace are friendly and eager to do business.
Don't Miss: The Waterfalls are nice. Castries, St. LuciaThe secret of St. Lucia.
An attractive island with Franco-Anglo roots-very mountainous.
Don't Miss: The pitons (twin peaks) are very beautiful. Many wealthy folks have ships around there. Charlotte Amalie, St. ThomasSt.Thomas is US.
Great beaches; nice docking/shopping area.
Don't Miss: The boat....take the short ride to the top of the mountain and make sure you have a Bushwacker! 4 out of 5 people found this review helpful.

Kristy from Las Vegas Sailing date: Dec 2006Pros: We really liked the setup in the rooms. They had the most comfortable bedding. We also liked their choice of entertainment... we were never bored! Dirty. by
Jennifer from NY Sailing date: Jan 2007I would not take this particular ship again if it did not go to the islands it does. I took it for more islands and less ship time. Ship was ratty looking needs to be reconditioned. Cooking staff was very unfriendly and due to sickness on boat everything had to be sanatized which was great but on debarkation day they let you serve yourself again like they didnt care about us getting sick since we were getting off now. They also broke all my luggage and only gave me $50 to get a new one for a 30" piece of luggage I had to drag my luggage home Entertainment & Activities
Entertainment: Comedian was boring and shows are always the same from ship to ship. 4 out of 6 people found this review helpful.

Bridgetown, BarbadosSnorkel.
Took taxi to close public beach. Use our own snorkling equipment and saw lots of fish and a huge turtle. Too many locals harassing you to buy "water sports".
Don't Miss: Aquatic life. DominicaPrimitive.
Trafalgar Falls is beautiful, but dangerous to get to. Not labled well at all by Dominica or cruise line. Need to be in shape and have proper shoes to reach the falls. Country seems to be very poor and live in squalor.
Don't Miss: Trafalgar Falls. Castries, St. LuciaCraft markets.
Shopped the local craft markets.
Charlotte Amalie, St. ThomasSnorkel.
Spent all day on excursion, did not see much of island.

Barbados is beautiful. If you don't want to do an excusion, a cab tour is fun also. Just be 'selective' about which cab you agree to take....some can be very agressive and appear to be a bit "shady".
Dominica
Dominica is pretty...but it is also very poor. The cab drivers are a bit 'pushy' to take you on a cab tour -- but they are extremely polite about it.
Castries, St. Lucia
We took a water taxi over to town and were IMMEDIATELY harrassed and assaulted by beggers and cab drivers. I say assualted because they physically touched us and grabbed us. One actually grabbed my husband and tried to drag him across the street to buy him a sandwich. It was SCARY. We immediately took the water taxi back to the boat and stayed there for the remainder of the time on St. Lucia.

Excellent treatment, value and greatly r by
Jeff from Cambridge, Ohio Sailing date: May 2007Pros: The crew!!! Best way to explain the effort the staff puts forth is the following. My wife and I purchased 6 bottles of rum in Barbados and checked it in upon returning to ship. When we were leaving at the end of our trip they could not find our liquor. The ship purser replaced it from the ship store. He was very nice and helpful, even though everyone was in a hurry to depart. Carnival should be proud of employees like him. Great trip, made possible by people like that. Entertainment & Activities

Good value for your money. by
Lisa from Phila, PA Sailing date: Feb 2007Pros: Good value for the experience. The Carnival Destiny is not one of those new glamorous vessels with state of the art everything. Yes, it is a little shabby here and there. They aren't big on originality and creativeness. But overall it offers a very nice cruise experience. Personally, I hate days at sea. I don't drink, gamble, engage in Bingo games, etc. So, most of the onboard "entertainment" is not entertaining to me. The Destiny, however, has only one day at sea, which is pretty rare for a cruise ship running in the caribbean. The ports of call are all excellent and each offers something a little different. If you are a frequent cruiser and/or just want a reasonably priced get away, with fair value for your money, go for it. If you must absolutely have the best of the best, or this is your first cruise, definitely shop elsewhere. (Hint, come a day early and spend the day seeing Old San Juan. Great place!) Entertainment & Activities
Entertainment: Same old stuff, no originality. Never enough to do when you are at sea.

Bridgetown, BarbadosAmazing place.
Have been there three times. Each time was great. Awesome beaches, nice shopping, gorgeous siteseeing. Even if you don't drink alot, get a nice bottle of Barbados rum or rum punch. The Black Belly sheep are cute, especially when there are small lambs. People are friendly enough.
Don't Miss: Walk out of the port through security and follow along the sea wall. Wear a hat, it is very hot! There are alot of shops on the left. Amazing fish market on the right. About five minutes walk after th DominicaGreen and lush.
Dominica is very green and beautiful. Rains alot. Bring PONCHO! The people are very poor and the town reflects the sad state of the economy. Don't let that put you off, it's safe to wander and explore the town. The people are friendly. Take a tour and see the countryside-very green and lush.
Don't Miss: Get out of town and see the countryside. Castries, St. LuciaOne of the best!
St. Lucia has just about everything I want in a tropical paradise. All green and lush, waterfalls, mountains to drive up. Flowers are everywhere. Charming fishing villages to explore. There is a huge market to wander. They sell all kinds of weird stuff. Don't hesitate to ask the vendors what the different herbs are for. (One is a local Aphrodisiac!). Great straw market, colorful vegatable & fish market. People are friendly. Took so many pictures!
Don't Miss: Wander the town, see the market & cathedral. Visit the countryside, green and gorgeous. See the Piton mountains. Charlotte Amalie, St. ThomasGreat for shoppers.
If you want to spend, here is your port. Jewelry is the main deal. Megans Bay Beach is supposed to be one of the ten best beaches in the world. I would not agree. The island belongs to the USA, so it is very modern feeling. If you want weird, wild and rustic, this is not your spot.
Don't Miss: Browse the shops. 31 out of 45 people found this review helpful.
